Window Classifications and Charts

Classifications Explanation

Air Tightness (A)
The air tightness test measures the volume of air that would pass through a closed window at an air pressure differential that represents a wind speed of 40 kph (25 mph). Performance is indicated by a number rating from A1 to A3. The higher the number, the more airtight the product.

Water Tightness (B)
On windows the performance rating for water tightness is represented by the letter 'B'. Water tightness testing involves applying a uniform water spray at increasing air pressure (to simulate wind-driven rain) until water penetrates the window. Performance is indicated by a number ranging from B1 to B7 for windows, and from B1 to B4 for sliding doors. The higher the number, the more watertight the product.

Wind-Load Resistance (C)
For windows, the performance rating for wind-load resistance is represented by the letter 'C'. Resistance to wind-load is a measure of the product's structural strength and is tested by applying increasing levels of air pressure to simulate the wind force. Air pressure is applied until the product's operation is impaired. There are up to five levels of wind resistance for windows (C1 to C5) and three levels (C1 to C3) for sliding doors. The higher the number, the better the performance.

Forced-Entry Resistance (F)
The performance rating for forced-entry resistance is represented by the letter 'F'. The standards for windows include a test to indicate how well the product may thwart entry within five minutes. One of two ratings is assigned, F1 or F2. For windows, F1 means the product has a lock, while F2 indicates it has a lock and it passes hand and tool manipulation tests. This test is optional for windows that are installed higher than two meters from the ground. F2 represents the higher level of security.

LoE and Energy Efficient Glazing Options

Low-Emissivity (LOE2) glass is specially coated to admit light but reflect heat, keeping it outside in the summer and holding it inside in the winter. Its higher R (thermal resistance) value means greater insulating performance than ordinary windows. Ordinary thermal glass has an R (Thermal Resist) factor of 2.1. A thermal unit with LOE2 (with Argon) has an R factor of 4.2. Plus, LOE2 glass also reduces the amount of UV light by up to 1/3 of other coatings, protecting your furniture and floorings — and most importantly — your family.

Low-Emissivity (LOE3) glass is currently available on all of our Window and Door Products.

Exclusive Super-Spacer Technology & Warm-Edge Technology

Reduce Condensation, Maximize Performance

Typically, glazed window units are secured by metal spacers, which readily conduct heat and can drain up to 20% of energy costs - even in high-performance windows.

Vinylbilt windows feature our 100% non-metallic exclusive White S-Class Super-Spacer®, engineered to reduce heat and cold transfer between the glazing panels. It is virtually 950 times less conductive than aluminum spacers and is also 85 times less conductive than stainless steel. This same technology keeps inside air cooler in the summer. We call that WARM EDGE.

Take Comfort in the Efficiency of Vinylbilt

The durable Super-Spacer® acrylic bond also reduces sound transfer by as much as 18%, keeping intrusive noises outside, where they belong.

  1. Dual-Seal aluminum spacer backed with polyurethane
  2. Intercept® - Dual-Seal, tin-plate steel spacer backed with polyurethane
  3. Swiggle® single-seal, corrugated metal strip buried in butyl
  4. Super Spacer® dual seal, No Metal, structural foam spacer backed with hot melt butyl

Superior Insulation for Lasting Comfort

Argon and Krypton are safe, odourless and colourless gases, which are heavier than air. When used in conjunction with LoE2 glass, these gases provide better insulation. The reason? Heat and cold do not pass through Argon and Krypton gas as easily as through air. Furthermore, Argon and Krypton are non-toxic and present no human health or environmental concerns.

As with any Vinylbilt technology, the addition of these superior insulators will stand the test of time. Tests conducted on commercial insulated glass sealants have determined that the superior sealant used in the Vinylbilt system will allow a maximum gas permeation of less than 1/3 of 1% per year! It was also noted that other manufacturers use sealants that could allow as much as 3% to escape per year. The superior sealing system that we use, combined with the fact that we fill our units to 98% of their cubic volume with gas, far exceeds the required industry standard of 75% fill.

In short, you will experience a lifetime of superior comfort from our insulating technologies.

Cleaning Made Easy with Simply Clean Glass

Simply Clean® Glass is manufactured to actually make the glass smoother. This helps your windows stay cleaner longer. Ordinary glass allows water to cling to the surface causing it to bead. Trapped dirt and other residue remain behind as spots when the water evaporates. Simply Clean® Glass is 'hydrophilic', which causes water to spread rather than bead. Evaporation occurs quickly with fewer spots visible, keeping your windows cleaner, with less maintenance.
