"I wanted to thank all of you personally for coming at the last moment to help my daughter and myself with securing our home. I have been a respected interior designer for some twenty-two years and your installation of my front door at my residence shows exceptional expertise and workmanship. Thank you again and all the best and look forward to working with you in the future."

Though they come in standard sizes, most homes have non-standard, custom windows. These "builder's specials" can be hard to replace, because they often require special orders and professional installation.
Energy efficiency is just one area where newer models surpass older ones. There is a range of Energy Star-certified models that incorporate double or triple glazing, low-e glass and non-conductive framing. These changes reduce heat transfer and UV light penetration, which reduces both heating and cooling costs and the costs associated with replacing items that have been sun-damaged.
Newer models often last longer and require less maintenance, as well. Vinyl and aluminum frames, for example, do not suffer from weather damage like wood frames do. They don't need to be painted as often, if ever, and won't warp or become misshapen, which can decrease their efficiency at keeping out the elements.
Another option to consider when replacing old windows is to change the style. Replacement windows don't necessarily have to be in the same size or shape as the originals. Installing a bay where a portrait style used to be can increase the size of a room. Custom windows can be chosen for cosmetic reasons, as well. One can change the style of the house to rustic, modern or Victorian by installing style-specific custom windows.
