Colours, grilles and interiors

Triple-pane, Low-E and argon for Ontario winters
For our winters, our FAQ recommends triple-pane windows with LoE 366 glass and argon fill. They cut heat loss in winter, block a high share of UV in summer and reduce outside noise. That matters most on homes near Lake Ontario that face the wind.
- Glass: dual-pane (7/8") or triple-pane (1 3/8")
- Coatings: LoE 180, LoE 272, LoE 366 and i89
- Argon gas fill: heavier than air, so it slows heat transfer through the glass
- ENERGY STAR: we supply ENERGY STAR-rated windows

Premium vinyl windows: Vinylbilt and Frank by Ostaco
Our main window lines are Vinylbilt and Frank by Ostaco. Both are premium replacement grade, in soft white vinyl, with 7/8" dual-pane or 1 3/8" triple-pane glass. Frank windows also come in deeper 4 9/16" and 5 3/4" frames, which bring the glass closer to the warm side of the wall.
Grade matters more than most people think. Our comparison chart puts builder-grade windows at roughly 5 to 15 years of life, contractor grade at 10 to 20 years, and premium grade at the lifetime of the house. Many Burlington and Oakville subdivisions from the 1990s and 2000s were built with builder-grade windows, so they may be due now.
How to read the comparison chart:
Vinyl Colour: Vinyl windows come in 2 colours: Soft White (preferred) and Arctic White (stark blue tinge).
Glass Thickness: A 7/8" dual-pane glass pack is considered premium. A 1 3/8" triple-pane glass pack is preferred over dual pane.
Window Thickness: 3 1/4" has been the standard for 40 years. As walls have become thicker over the decades, deeper windows have been produced to limit the size of the jamb extensions and to bring the glass closer to the warm side of the wall.
Window Quality Genre: Determines approximately how long the windows will last in your house without failing. Builders Grade: 5-15 years. Contractor Grade: 10-20 years. Premium Grade: the lifetime of the house (preferred).
